Blog: Cartoon illustration Melbourne

Thursday February 5th 2015 //

I’m going through some old hard drives looking for sketches and I’ve come across some cartoon illustration Melbourne has been a blast, we moved out from one house and arrived by taxi one street up. Brunswick in Christmas with new friends is making the move feel easy.

Blog: The Challenge

Monday January 13th 2015 // The Challenge – Melbourne Animator

We are no longer living in a van, we are living in lovely Melbourne. Trams coffee and smashed avocado. We are also living with a chocolatier, her house smells incredible, but she has a bit of a temper.. I don’t think we will stay here for too long. Christmas is coming up and my sister is coming to visit.

Well Craig and Ryan got back in touch and they wanted some more promo work doing for their start up. Here it is.

Pre production for animation short “The Challenge” has begun & I am underway with character development. The short is about a average joe who wants to be more, over breakfast he see’s an opportunity to change & with a cleverly cut montage he does just that.

Expected completion – December 22nd

Blog: Working from a Van 2 – The bad client

Wednesday 12th November 2014// Splash screen

I’ll keep this one short, but some of the difficulties of working from a van can be space, power and the humidity as you pull up in a sub tropical rainforest for the night. I was contacted by a Melbourne client and agreed to create an animated splash screen, it was a days work and in difficult circumstances. I sent them the finished file.. and the dastardly Mahoon never responded again. Cough! The said splash screen for mobile platform application “dive”

Saturday 11th October 2014// Bunker gallery of cartoon Melbourne is 868 miles South.

A month on the road has delivered some interesting places & people. Australia’s landscape can change within a car’s drive & the further north we go the more we settle into a life less ordinary.

Passing through Coffs Harbour we made friends with the passionate people at the Bunker Cartoon Gallery & have agreed to enter some work for this years Rotary Awards. We also discussed opening the gallery up to an Animation category.

I believe we are half way up to the tip of Australia, with 2 months before we arrive back in Melbourne there’s lots more opportunities for future stories.

Blog: Bye Bye Farm

Monday 1st September 2014 // Cartoon animator Melbourne

Our 3 month stay with the Chambers family is almost up so as a departing gift I have illustrated one anecdote they shared with us about a disgruntled local pub after hitting the jukebox to play the “Pulp Fiction” cut of Dick Dales, Misirlou.

Background Nick & Fiona

I also found time to render a short animation which was animated around a 45 second sound recording I took while at an AFL game last June.

Blog: Glass half empty

Sunday 27th July 2014 // Flash Animator in Melbourne

We are still on the farm in Colac, the pigs are loud and they are always hungry. The other day I fell over in some mud while carrying a 20kg bag of feed and was mobbed by 20 – 30 pigs. That will be a highlight. I made Nick the farmer a space to fling his ‘manure’, lacking the need for anything creative I have put together a very nice rock and broken wood boarder with a symmetrical border. I also updated my Freelancer profile and received a call from Doug Bray. He is writing a short cartoon, I said I would help and here is a rendered scene from the production of “Glass Half Empty”.

Blog: The Footy outing

Sunday 29th June 2014 // Animation in Melbourne:

We have moved to Melbourne, while we enjoyed a cozy 2 week stay in a Brunswick Air B&B we went and check out some Aussie Footy. I thought it would be useful to record some of the stadium ambience and so.. we are now living with Nick and Fiona on their farm in Colac, I have little creative output as I feed the pigs and chase chickens so I thought I would use the collected sound effects and see what I come up with. Here are the early sketch drawings for the project, a working title short animation.
